About the squad
Our squad, which comprises 40 boys from a range of schools in the South Cheltenham area and beyond, is based at the University of Gloucestershire’s Park Campus where we currently train on Sundays between 10 and 11:30 am.
We have spent the past two seasons familiarising the boys with the basics of rugby with an emphasis on safety, basic skills development and having fun. Some of the boys moved up from tag, others have joined us at the beginning of the U9 and U10 seasons.
We are developing three mixed ability squads and have seen all the boys play some very impressive rugby. We’ve introduced them to matches against other local clubs, both home and away, with a busy fixture list that also accommodates the need for regular Sunday training to enable reflection and continued learning.
We hope to build upon the relationships we’ve started with the local clubs we’ve played, whilst establishing new ones as we travel further afield.
This season the U10’s are on tour for the first time! Following in the footsteps of previous U10’s, we’re off to one of the club’s favourite tour destinations for our younger age groups in Devon.
Our ethos and approach
We provide a fun, energetic and inclusive environment with equal game time for all. This is very much at the heart of how we do things as we heavily endorse the RFU values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.
We also look to develop the boys technically and tactically as they mature mentally and physically but always with respect for others. When training a lot of what we do is heavily game based as we believe this to be the best learning environment and is what the boys enjoy most.
We’ve had great feedback on how we run things, manage the games & our approach.
