The Old Pats seniors provides 100 + players, over the age of 18, with the opportunity to play social or league rugby.
Introduction by Matt Cape Club Chairman
Our amazing Junior Section feeds into senior Old Pats, with over 300 players, 70 coaches and 800 supportive parents. We regularly field senior teams with over 80% of the players having played with their mates since junior school!
Third Team
The 3rd team is known as “The Gentlemen”. They provide long-standing Old Pats players with competitive social rugby, playing other clubs across the county, whilst they support the transition of players from the junior to senior teams.
Second Team
The 2nd team play in Gloucestershire 2 North (Level 10). They play league games against other local clubs 1st & 2nd teams. They are a fantastic transition for players aspiring to 1st team rugby or for those craving competitive league rugby with a Gloucestershire focus.
First Team
The 1st team compete in South West One. hey play at Level 6 and are proud to represent the town across the South West. They compete along the M5 corridor, and all the way down to St Austell in Cornwall. The team is firmly rooted in the tradition of the Old Pats with the core of the team having played for the club since they were kids, many have played together for most of their rugby life.
Whatever your aspirations – the occasional 20 minutes off the bench followed by a well-earned refreshment talking through your exploits with the other ‘Gentlemen’ in the 3rd’s; playing League rugby for the 2nd team against other local clubs 1st teams; or developing your game and running out in the starting 15 in the 1st team competing against high quality opposition – we have a team that will meet your needs.
Coaching Team
The playing squad are coached by a team with a true Old Pats flavour who have a genuine love for the club and share the passion of the players.
A number of the coaches are long-standing Old Pats who have played or coached at a higher level and returned to help the next generation. Chris Downes, Head Coach and Will Safe, Skills Coach, have played at a professional level with Ebbw Vale, Gloucester & Hartpury and are still playing an active part at Old Pats.
Matt Dean, 1st team captain, played for the Old Pats Juniors and Colts., Gethin Evans has been adopted by the club having started his playing career across the bridge with Llanelli – but has been an Old Pat for over 15 years and has coached in the juniors and colts.
Whilst we are an amateur rugby club, we approach the game with a professional mindset both on and off the field to allow every player to develop and enjoy their game.
