Our fourth Summer Ball at the unrivalled Princess Hall at Cheltenham Ladies College was our most attended to date and raised a record amount for the club through ticket sales, heads and tales, and the silent auction.
It was Junior Chairman Alistair Armstrong’s first year at the helm taking over from the hugely energetic Matt Cape now Club Chairman who did a fantastic job drumming up support and selling many tickets.
Organising the Junior Ball is no mean feat! The level of planning that goes into ensuring the night goes off with a bang rather than a whimper, is extensive and takes a team of volunteers months to organise the venue, food, entertainment and promotion.
This year was our best ever: attracting 189 guests; raised a record for the club; and received more ‘thank you’ emails than ever.
To help us achieve this we added a cocktail bar to the garden; brought back the bucking bronco (rugby ball); U14’s parent Rachel Cappuccini returned as director of food (please read here nutrition article (link) in this newsletter); local band Master Plan was invited back having played at our first ball, and U12 parent Gemma Fletcher used her substantial event management experience to ensure all ran as smoothly as possible.
Although the giant Jenga was not so giant reminding many of the ‘Stonehenge’ scene in Spinal Tap, the weather stayed dry and warm allowing everyone to fully enjoy the beautiful gardens before and after the meal.
We’d also like to thank our attentive and enthusiastic waiting staff who did a fantastic job of serving everyone quickly and efficiently with zero mishaps!
The Old Pats Ball at the Princess Elizabeth Hall, Cheltenham Ladies College has become the event of the year in the Old Pats’ Junior calendar, not only does it to a great job unifying the age groups including the seniors, it raises much-needed funds to enable over 340 juniors to benefit from the sporting, physical and social benefits of rugby and of course simply being an Old Pat
We’ll be announcing plans for next year’s ball in the new year, in the meantime if you have any ideas for 2020 do please let us know via the contact page (link) on this website.
